Deep dive into history of Alcester is topic of festival
ALCESTER and District Local History Society (ADLHS) is continuing to mark its 50th anniversary year with a one-day festival to be held next Saturday, November 2.
An exhibition of photos and documents revealing the town’s history will be held at the town hall on Henley Street along with three talks by enthusiasts in the afternoon.
At 12midday, Stephen Godfrey will present A Concise History of Alcester which, in 60 minutes, will look at the history of the town from Roman times to the present day.
This will be followed at 2pm with ADLHS chair Alan Godfrey who will shed light on what is known about Roman Alcester, and what life might have been like.
Finally, Dr Richard Churchley’s talk Old Pubs and Hostelries around Alcester will explore some of the oldest pubs, past and present. Entrance to the exhibition is free and runs from 10am to 5pm.
Admission to each talk costs £2 on the door and refreshments are available.
